
His research interests center on physiological genetics, genetic dissection of and analysis of complex disease, especially target organ damage associated with diabetes mellitus and hypertension. His laboratory is known for applying genomics, and high through-put phenotyping, as well as comparative genomics and bioinformatics. Dr. Jacob chaired the Coordinating Committee for the Program for Genomic Applications (PGA) from September 2001 to September 2004, and still serves as one of the members. This 11 center (37 grants) program builds animal models, genomics tools and reagents, and bioinformatic tools and freely distributes all data and reagents to the public in advance of publication.
In addition to his academic duties, Dr. Jacob is CEO of PhysioGenix, Inc., a biotechnology company he founded in 1997.
