Education

Our goal is to provide training and education that will prepare individuals to function effectively on multidisciplinary research teams and to lead team efforts with the potential of translating research among basic science, patient oriented, and community disciplines.  The array of training opportunities will include certificate programs, academic degree programs, and mentored clinical-translational career development opportunities.  Potential trainees include high school students, undergraduate and graduate students at partnering academic institutions, post-doctoral fellows, junior and mid-career faculty, and workforce members who are actively engaged in research.  We will feature programs as they become available.

Masters of Science in Clinical & Translational Science

The program and its curriculum are designed to offer appropriate training to individuals who have established skills and credentials as basic scientists, bioengineers, clinicians, and health care providers (nurses, nutritionists, psychologists, pharmacists, dentists, veterinarians, etc.).

Future Opportunties:  Several new, innovative programs will be designed to provide investigators with the tools to bridge translation across laboratory, patient, and community arenas. These include: 1) a MS in Clinical & Translational Research that integrates and expands two existing masters programs; 2) a PhD in Translational Research that broadens the training of basic science PhD students; and 3) a PhD in Clinical & Translational Health Sciences for students in the health professions.

A seminar series on Clinical and Translation Research will be offered this fall.

Watch this space as these new opportunities become available.

There are a number of educational programs in the health field at MCW and other institutions in Milwaukee. These include degree-granting programs, certification programs, courses on specific topics, seminars, and high-school programs. If you would like a program added to this list, send an email to CTSI.

  • Clinical Research Scholars Program(K30) (CRSP): Junior Faculty with an interest in clinical or translational research are invited to apply for the 2009-2011 cohort of the Medical College of Wisconsin's Clinical Research Scholars Program (CRSP). The goal of this National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded K30 award is to foster clinical/translational research skills and the research career development of promising junior investigators committed to pursuing an academic career in clinical and translational research. The CRSP is a collaborative research training effort with the Clinical & Translational Science Institute (CTSI). Open to all CTSI affliated junior faculty. Admission to the program is on a competitive basis. Submission deadline: March 31, 2009
High School Programs
  • Smart Teams: high school students and their teacher working with research scientists to design and construct physical models of the proteins that are being investigated in their laboratories. The primary goal of the SMART Team program is to connect high school students to the real world of science that exists in an active biomolecular research.
